Vastu Considerations for Apartment Living

2 April 2026 · 5 min read

Many Kolkata homebuyers weigh Vastu alongside carpet area and price, and for a multi-crore, decades-long purchase, that's entirely reasonable. The challenge is that apartment living — shared walls, fixed floor plates, a building footprint set years before you move in — limits how much of traditional Vastu can be applied unit by unit.

What's usually adjustable, even after possession

  • Furniture placement and the direction you sleep in within a room
  • Where the kitchen's cooking platform and stove sit within the kitchen footprint, in some layouts
  • Placement of a home temple or puja corner within a room
  • Interior colour choices for specific rooms

What's fixed at construction and worth checking before you book

  • The main door's facing direction and the unit's overall orientation on the floor plate
  • Where the bathroom and toilet sit relative to the rest of the layout
  • The building's entrance direction and its position relative to the site
  • Balcony and window placement, which drives natural light and ventilation

If Vastu compliance is a priority, review the actual floor plan with an advisor before booking — not after. A sales team can tell you a layout is "Vastu-friendly," but a plan in hand is the only way to confirm what that means for your specific unit and its orientation in the tower.
